If your computer is running slowly, failing to initialize applications and throwing back random Windows system errors during start up and shut down then you may need to carry out some immediate maintenance on your computer registry.  The registry is the part of the computer where all of the fundamental information regarding software, hardware, system settings and preferences are saved, and your system will search this list to find the instructions it needs to start up your computer (with each saved user settings), open up files, folders and applications and also run devices.  Over time the registry can pick up a number of errors, including duplicate, missing, corrupt or out of date keys, and this can make it difficult for the system to select the information it needs, and can also create conflicts which can cause serious system wide problems.

You can carry out maintenance on your registry manually, but this can be very complicated and it is difficult to tell which keys need amending, updating or replacing, and you could end up getting rid of important information that could make your computer problems even worse.  A much safer and easier option is to install some registry cleaning software onto your computer, and this will scan your registry for you, and provide you with a list of key entries for you to review and then delete or amend.  Some registry cleaning programs can also be set up to scan, clean up and also update your registry automatically, and you can schedule them to run regularly to ensure your registry is kept organized and error free.

It is important to choose a registry cleaner program that has a comprehensive back up feature, as this will allow you to restore you system in the event any important information does accidentally get deleted.
